About the Digital Tree Pictures

Our tree pictures are images of 3D digital model trees. We believe the models are accurate representations of the types of trees, but because they are not photographs of actual trees, we preface the titles of the trees with "TG" (for "Treehouse Generic").

We offer three sizes of each tree portrait: small (2160 x 2160 pixels), medium (3000 x 3000 pixels), and large (4000 x 4000 pixels), at prices of €3, €6, and €9 respectively. The free silhouettes are all 3000 x 3000 pixels in size. To ensure best image quality, no portrait image is an enlargement or reduction of a different size (each size of portrait is a fresh rendering of the model tree), and the image files are 24-bit .png files.

The images are highly detailed. Here is a typical actual-size detail, from each of the small, medium, and large portraits of the Chestnut tree:

(It is likely that your monitor resolution is less than normal printing resolution, so the images will appear smaller and sharper when printed).

If you have picture software, you can easily change the background colour of the tree portraits, and both colours of the silhouettes, by using your colour replacer tool or magic wand and fill tools.

If you have picture software and a printer, you will also know how to adjust printing resolution to obtain the printed image size that you want. The preset printing resolutions of each size of image, in metric/US units, are shown in the table below:

Most modern printers are so good that a realistic lower limit to printing resolution is of the order of 60 dpc/150 dpi, even for images as detailed as these. This means, for example, that if you are not obsessive about pin-sharpness, you can get a 30 x 30 cm/12 x 12 in print from a small portrait by setting resolution to 72 dpc/180 dpi (Super A3/B paper), a 40 x 40 cm/15 x 15 in print from a medium portrait by setting resolution to 75 dpc/200 dpi (A2/C paper), and, if you have access to a 60 cm/24 inch large-format printer, you could make a 57 x 57cm/22 x 22 inch print of a large portrait by setting printing resolution to 70 dpc/182 dpi.
